As a child I loved reading about of ancient Greece and ancient Roman myths. I especially loved the myth about Pegasus, the wild winged stallion. Not only could Pegasus fly, but when he struck the ground with his hoof flowing fountains would appear. Pegasus had many adventures during his life. The goddess Athena tamed him and took him to Mt Olympus where he served Zeus, king of the gods. After years of faithful service, Zeus turned Pegasus into stars of the nights sky, which is the constellation Pegasus.
Such an inspirational nobel beast. I envisioned Pegasus as having colorful wings, as though a rainbow was shining on him. Each feather was carefully crafted with colored pencil. I blended several colors to create a colorfull background framing the horse. I wanted to capture him in a striking pose that denoted flight. Hence you see the feathers at the bottom blow back against the wind toward the front of the horse.
