Artist's Description
Galloping horses on Sand
Colored pencil on paper
I have loved horses since childhood. I also work with horses. Horses inspire me because of their beauty, grace of moment, and the fact they are intelligent creatures.
In the composition they are the focal point. In this drawing I wanted to capture the horses' galloping gate as the herd of two gallop together. They are frozen in time, kicking up sand as they gallop together. I also wanted to convey how powerful the horses are. That was done with the flying sand and the dust cloud.
A technique I like to use is building up the colors in layers until they almost look like a glaze. Then I go in with an eraser and move some of the color until it looks like the color stained the paper.
